- Olympe Démarez, born on January 27, 1878 Catillon-sur-Sambre ( Nord Department ) and died on September 5, 1964, was the first French woman lawyer in the Nord department, the first woman elected to the city council of Dunkirk in 1945 at a time when it was still extremely difficult for women to perform certain professions monopolized by men.
