- He currently holds a seat as a Woodbury County Supervisor. Raised in Sioux City, Iowa Taylor holds a bachelor's degree from Dowling College, master's degree from the University of South Dakota, both in English and a master's of Divinity from Liberty University in Virginia.
- Taylor was a high school English teacher, quiz bowl coach and now an Energy Specialist for the Sioux City Community Schools District.
- His wife, Kim, is a native of Vietnam.
- They have six children, as of 2018.
- Taylor was first elected to the Iowa State House in 2010.
