(June 17, 1924 – May 14, 2001), was an African-American attorney and educator from Shreveport, Louisiana, who broke past color barriers in state government.
He won national acclaim for his role as a civil rights lawyer and ultimately became the first African American appointed to the Louisiana Supreme Court as an associate justice pro tempore.
