  • Steele (January 6, 1807 – January 11, 1871) was an American newspaper editor. Born in Charleston, South Carolina and was living in Georgia by the 1830s. He served as secretary to George W.
  • Crawford during his governorship and when he was Secretary of War under President Zachary Taylor. He edited Jared Whitaker's Daily Intelligencer from 1860 until his death. A few months later (in April) the newspaper also died after fierce competition from newcomer the Atlanta Constitution.
