  • He played college football at the University of Southern California, where he was a two-time All-American at guard.
  • Baker served as the head football coach at Iowa State Teachers College—now known as the University of Northern Iowa—from 1933 to 1934, the University of Denver from 1948 to 1952, and Sacramento State College—now known as California State University, Sacramento—from 1957 to 1960, compiling a career college football coaching record of 41–61–4.
  • He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame as a player in 1983.
