Sastry (5 September 1945 – 13 September 2018) was an Indian film critic, director and writer, known for his works predominantly in Telugu cinema, and few Kannada films.
He has garnered seven National Film Awards.
Sastry was the president of the Hyderabad Film Club from 2008 to 2011, and a film critic with more than thirty years of experience.
He was a jury member for many international film festivals.
He served as chairman of critics Jury at National Film Awards and has served as a Jury Member for Andhra Pradesh state Nandi Awards.As a filmmaker, he strove to make films that had a striking a balance between art and Parallel Cinema.
His latest film was Shaanu.
