  • He gained notoriety for allegedly being involved in the June 1964 murders of Chaney, Goodman, and Schwerner.
  • Rainey was likely a member of Mississippi's White Knights of the Ku Klux KlanAlan Parker's Mississippi Burning is a fictionalized version of the Freedom Summer Murders.
  • It was released in 1988 and starred Gene Hackman and Willem Dafoe. Rainey died of cancer in 2002 and is buried next to his family in Kemper County, Mississippi.
