Friedrich Wilhelm Reinhold Pieck (German pronunciation: ['v?lh?lm 'pi?k]; 3 January 1876 – 7 September 1960) was a German politician and a communist.
In 1949, he became the first President of the German Democratic Republic, an office abolished upon his death.
His successor as head of state was Walter Ulbricht, who served as chairman of the Council of State.
