- He was the father of Dale Earnhardt Sr., the grandfather of Dale Earnhardt Jr., Kelley Earnhardt Miller, Taylor Putnam, and Kerry Earnhardt, and great grandfather of Jeffrey Earnhardt and Bobby Dale Earnhardt.
- Earnhardt helped give Bobby Isaac his start in racing.
