Schroeder (born December 13, 1955) is a Democratic politician who currently serves as the Commissioner of the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles.
Schroeder was raised in South Buffalo, where he attended Public School #72, St.
Thomas Aquinas School, and Bishop Timon High School.
He received an A.A.S.
degree from Erie Community College in 1976 and a B.S.
degree from Empire State College in 1982.
Prior to being elected comptroller, he served as a member of the New York State Assembly, representing portions of the cities of Buffalo and Lackawanna, as well as the entire towns of West Seneca and Orchard Park.
He was the Reform Party candidate for Mayor of Buffalo in 2017.
