About Walther Wüst

  • Walther Wüst (7 May 1901, Kaiserslautern – 21 March 1993) was a German Indo-Europeanist and Vedicist in the first half of the 20th century who served as Rector of the University of Munich from 1941 to 1945.
  • Wüst was a committed Nazi, joining the SS in 1936 and being appointed President of the Research Institute of the Ahnenerbe SS in 1937.
  • He eventually attained the rank of Oberführer.
  • He stood trial in 1949 during denazification and was categorized as an offender (Belasteter).
  • His most prominent students were the Indo-Iranianist Karl Hoffmann and the Iranian Nazi Davud Monshizadeh.
