- He previously served as the defensive backs coach for the Carolina Panthers and held the same role with the Jacksonville Jaguars before that.
- Before that, he served as the interim head coach and defensive coordinator of the NFL's Buffalo Bills.
- He was named interim head coach after serving as the team's defensive coordinator from 2006 to 2009 under head coach Dick Jauron.
