  • At Melbourne University he edited Farrago, the Melbourne University Student Union paper.
  • He also edited Lot's Wife at Monash University.In 1983, he was elected to the Australian House of Representatives as the Labor member for Casey, defeating Liberal MP Peter Falconer.
  • However, a redistribution made his seat marginally Liberal, and as a result he was defeated the following year by Liberal Bob Halverson and retired from politics.
