  • Rudolph August Witthaus (Aug.

  • 20, 1915) was an American physician and toxicologist, born in New York City.
  • He graduated from Columbia College in 1867 with a Bachelor of Arts degree and from Columbia University in 1870 with a Master of Arts degree.
  • After studying in France at the Sorbonne and Collége de France in 1873–74.
  • He attended the New York University School of Medicine and graduated with a Doctor of Medicine degree in 1875.
  • He was professor of chemistry and toxicology at the universities of New York, Vermont, and Buffalo successively, and at Cornell (1898-1911).
  • He acted as toxicological expert in several famous criminal cases.
  • His publications include: Essentials of Chemistry (1879) Manual of Chemistry (1879; sixth edition, 1908) General Medical Chemistry (1881) Laboratory Guide in Urinalysis and Toxicology (1886)With T.
