Russell Impagliazzo is a professor of computer science at the University of California, San Diego.
He received his doctorate from the University of California, Berkeley.

Impagliazzo has contributed to more than 40 papers on topics within his specialties.
He also stated the well-known and much-used exponential time hypothesis, stating that 3-SAT cannot be solved in subexponential time in the number of variables.
This hypothesis is used to show many lower bounds on algorithms in computer science. His "five worlds" are well known in computational complexity theory.
