About Scott Reid (baseball)

  • Scott Donald Reid (born January 7, 1947) is a retired American professional baseball player.
  • The outfielder appeared in 38 Major League Baseball games for the Philadelphia Phillies during parts of the 1969 and 1970 seasons.
  • He batted left-handed, threw right-handed, stood 6 feet 1 inch (1.85 m) tall and weighed 195 pounds (88 kg). Born in Chicago, Reid attended California's Cerritos College as well as Arizona State University.
  • Including the then-in-existence "secondary phase" and January drafts, he was selected four times during the first three years of the MLB amateur draft, 1965 through 1967, including twice by the New York Mets.
  • Finally, after the fourth time when the Phillies took him in the second round of the secondary phase of the 1967 Major League Baseball Draft, he signed a contract and entered pro ball.
  • In three separate trials with Philadelphia, Reid served as a pinch hitter and started 15 games in the outfield, 14 of them as a center fielder.
  • He collected ten hits, including one double, and scored ten runs.
  • He batted .147 with one run batted in. His seven-year career concluded in 1973.
