- Suneetha Wijesuriya is the only chess player to have won a gold medal at a World Chess Olympiad for Sri Lanka.
- She won this medal at the Manila 1992 Chess Olympiad.
- She has also won the Sri Lankan Women's National Chess Championship title ten times (1980, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1995 and 1997).
