About Pietro Cascella

  • Pietro Cascella (February 2, 1921 – May 18, 2008) was an Italian painter and sculptor. Cascella was born in Pescara from a family of ceramics artists.
  • In 1938 he moved to Rome where he attended the Accademia di Belle Arti.
  • In 1943 he took part in the Quadriennale di Roma painting exhibition and, in 1948, to the first post-World War II Biennale di Venezia. Cascella is known for his Carrara marble sculptures and his paintings, which often refer to impressionism and post-impressionism.
  • He created monumental sculptures for locations such as the Auschwitz death camp and Silvio Berlusconi's underground mausoleum in his villa in Arcore. Cascella lived in a medieval castle in Verrucola.
  • He died in Pietrasanta in 2008.
