About Robert McAlister

  • Walter Robert McAlister (Ontario, 13 August 1931 – Rio de Janeiro, 13 November 1993) was a Canadian Pentecostal minister who founded the New Life Christian church (Portuguese: Igreja Cristã de Nova Vida) in Brazil.
  • In 1913 McAlister was the trigger point of the creation of Oneness Pentecostalism when he preached at a Pentecostal camp in Los Angeles that the "in the name of Jesus" (Acts 2:38) baptismal formula was to be preferred over "in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost" (Acts 28:19).
  • This led to a group, led by McAlister, Glenn Cook, and Frank Ewart rebaptizing themselves and forming what became the "Jesus only" or Oneness Pentecostal movement.
