  • Eskridge Jr., (born October 27, 1951 in Princeton, West Virginia) is the John A.
  • Garver Professor of Jurisprudence at Yale Law School.
  • He is one of the most cited law professors in America, ranking sixth overall for the period 2010-2014.
  • He writes primarily on constitutional law, legislation and statutory interpretation, religion, marriage equality, and LGBT rights. After earning a B.A.
  • in history from Davidson College in 1973, he completed an M.A.
  • in history at Harvard University and then earned a J.D.
  • from Yale Law School in 1978.
  • At Yale he was an editor of the Yale Law Journal, where he worked with future Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor.
  • After graduating from Yale he clerked for Judge Edward Weinfeld on the U.S.
  • District Court for the Southern District of New York and then joined the D.C.
  • law firm Shea & Gardner.
