About Stacey Donovan

  • Stacey Donovan (born October 9, 1964) is an American former pornographic actress and model, who reached the height of her career in the 1980s.
  • At the time, she was a favorite of porn producers and directors because of her blonde hair, blue eyes, lithe body, girl-next-door appearance, and the apparent eagerness and enthusiasm she displayed in her sex scenes. Prior to entering the adult business, Kelly Howell was actually a mainstream model.
  • By the early 1980's, she had done a few TV commercials for Swatch.
  • A few years later however, her real life persona had changed to the stage porn name of Ashley Briton.
  • Howell had previously been warned not to do porn films, however she went ahead anyway, citing the need to make money.
  • 1984 marked the notable rise of Howell's porn acting career, as the porn film companies began to recognise the value of VHS home video, as opposed to their usual releases through the theatres.
  • Four films of note from this 1984-85 era, include the films produced by David I.
  • Frazer and Svetlana.
  • Featuring exotic locations, such as Hawaii and the South Pacific,"A little Bit of Hanky Panky" and "Panty Raid" were made during 1984 and a further two,"Surrender in Paradise" and "The Pink Lagoon" were made during 1985.
  • Kelly Howell would star in all four, under the stage name of Ashley Briton.
  • Not only were thse films a break through for Howell, they would also give another co-star, very young Ginger Lyn her starring break in the industry as well.
  • "I don't enjoy [working in pornography]", Howell once told The Baltimore Sun during October 1985 in an article reprinted in the San Diego Union-Tribune.
  • She noted that she earned about $1,000 a day.
  • "But I don't like to take my clothes off in front of everyone."However in 1986, despite the article, Howell had discarded her Ashley Briton persona in favor of the more widely known and recognisable stage name of Stacey Donovan.
  • Although it is not known why the name was changed, it was presumeably changed to give Kelly Howell a more recognisable name.
  • 1986 would also see Donovan go on to perform in a much wider range and increased number of porn features.
  • However unlike her previous movies, Donovan was now receiving top star billing, moving up from the supporting role she had been in previously.
