About Emil Bessels

  • Emil Bessels (2 June 1847 – 30 March 1888) was a German Arctic researcher, physician, entomologist, and zoologist who spent much of his scientific career working for the Smithsonian Institution. He took part in several Arctic expeditions and came under suspicion of having poisoned American explorer Charles Francis Hall during the course of the Polaris expedition.
