About Charles Marion

  • Charles Louis Pierre Marion (14 January 1887 – 16 November 1944) was a French horse rider who competed in the 1928 Summer Olympics and in the 1932 Summer Olympics. In 1928 he and his horse Linon won the silver medal in the individual dressage competition. Four years later he and his horse Linon won the silver medal in the individual dressage competition again.
  • They were also part of the French dressage team which won the gold medal in the team dressage event. Charles was the 5th Baron Marion, coming from a family of military officers.
  • He was appointed general in 1942 and served as a prefect for the French Vichy government.
  • After liberation during World War II he was imprisoned in 1944 and sentenced to death by a court martial.
  • From there he was kidnapped and executed by fighters of the French resistance group FTP as a representative of the hated Vichy regime.
