Nicolas Rex Smith (born 24 December 1964) is a New Zealand politician and a member of the New Zealand Parliament as a National Party member of parliament.
Smith has represented the Nelson electorate since 1996, and was the Member for Tasman before that, from 1990–1996.Smith is a former Cabinet minister, previously holding the posts of Minister for Building and Housing, Minister for the Environment, Minister for Climate Change Issues, and Minister for Local Government.For a brief time between October and November 2003 he was the deputy leader of the National Party, then in opposition under Don Brash.
Smith became the longest-serving MP in March 2018, having served continuously since the 1990 general election
