About Richard O'Brien

  • Richard O'Brien (born Richard Smith; 25 March 1942) is an English-New Zealand actor, writer, musician and television presenter.
  • He wrote the musical stage show The Rocky Horror Show in 1973 which became an international success and has remained in continuous production.
  • He also co-wrote the screenplay of the film adaptation The Rocky Horror Picture Show, released in 1975, appearing in the film as Riff Raff.
  • O’Brien was a member of the pop duo Kimi and Ritz from 1973 to 1976.
  • He wrote Shock Treatment and appeared in the film as Dr Cosmo McKinley. O'Brien appeared in the ITV series Robin of Sherwood, as Gulnar, alongside Jason Connery (1984–1986).
  • He presented the television show The Crystal Maze for Channel 4 from 1990 to 1993.
  • O'Brien appeared in the 1997 film Spice World, and was also the voice of Lawrence Fletcher, the title characters' father in Phineas and Ferb (2007–2015).
